Seeking programming expert / guru / possible co-founder (NYC)

Internet Engineers - New York - 5 hours 58 min ago
I am looking to bootstrap the next-gen online classifieds website that will finally bring online classifieds sites to the future. The site will be primarily focused on NYC at launch and possibly expand thereafter. Sure, we're using Craigslist right now but can't you envision a better classifieds site that we could be using? Check out OLX.com and Ebay Classifieds for a taste of what I'm thinking about. What I have laid out already but not firm on is going to be much better than what's out there currently and more localized to NYC.

Required Skills
- Ambitious to develop something cool
- Has earned or is pursuing BS or MS in Computer Science or related.
- 1+ years programming experience with PHP
- Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming, MVC Frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of SQL & relational database concepts.
- Fluency with standards-compliant HTML, CSS, Javascript,
- Familiar with MySQL, jQuery, subversion, memcache, shell scripting, XML, JSON.
- Experience with Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication and time management skills.
- Positive, Team-Oriented attitude.

Honesty Up Front:
-Paid in sweat equity (equity offer). We can arrange a small compensation or an iPad however as I said this is a boostrapped venture so everything would be coming out of my own pockets.
- I have a day job and I work on this project in my off hours. I anticipate the same for any candidate although if you are unemployed and want to pursue this fulltime, being a co-founder is possible.

Eleven Learning is reinventing college textbook publishing. Our mission is to build tools that help authors bypass the big publishers and make better, cheaper books. Now we're searching for a web developer who can take us to the next level.

That's where you come in. Your job is to:

  • Build features to improve our current product (a web-based textbook reader) as well as the one we're about to launch (community and crowdsourcing tools)
  • Either know the technologies we're using (Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and JQuery) or be a fast learner

Is that you? Great. But what's critical is that you also need to:

  • Be smart
  • Get things done
  • Want to change the world

We're self-funded and are all working for equity; ideally, you would too. However, if you're the right person for us, we'll find a way to get you on our team, whether you're looking for part-time, full-time, or part-time transitioning to full-time when we raise funds.

Interested? Then here's some more information about us: our current team has experience with startups, online communities, and academic publishing. We have identified a giant opportunity and believe that Eleven Learning will be a disruptive force in this industry. However, we are very much an early stage start-up, and you'll have a huge impact on our organization.

Still interested? Please respond with your resume, availability and links to some portfolio examples.
