I have prepared some notes on how to properly set up your account so that you can maximize the effectiveness of your membership.

First of all, if you have a Facebook account,  be sure to login by clicking on the Connect with Facebook button.  You can input your username and password and then link your Freighthouse account with your Facebook account.  You can then invite your Facebook friends to Freighthouse Media directly within the site, as well as display the contents of your "wall" on your user profile page.

Next, you should create your user global avatar by signing up with Gravatar. We use Gravatar to insert your picture into your profile as well as include it in all of your posts and the forums. You can do that by clicking here - www.gravatar.com.  Be sure to use the same email address when signing up with Gravatar that you did when you created your Freighthouse account.

Next, go to www.FreighthouseMedia.com.

Bookmark the Freighthouse homepage.

Sign into your account.

In the navigation menu, click on "My Account".

In your account section, click on "Edit" - You will now complete your Freighthouse account information.  Be sure to be as thorough and complete as possible to maximize the effectiveness of your profile.

 - Select whether or not you would like to receive private messages from other Freighthouse members.

 - Make sure that you check the option to have your own personal contact form.

 - Create your personal signature. Feel free to include your logo and web address.

 - Choose your messaging and notifications settings.

 - Make sure your time zone is correct.

 - Click "Save"

Now, click on the resume tab.  Here you will create a searchable resume as well as upload your .pdf or Word document.

 - Create a title for your resume.

 - Type in the word "resume" in the Freighthouse Tags field.

 - Use the WYSIWYG editor to create a resume (You can ensure that your input format is set to Full HTML in the following dropdown labeled "input format".

 - Under Subscriptions, feel free to subscribe to the content type "Posts of type Resume" to be notified when another user creates a new resume.

 - Under File Attachments, browse to your preformatted PDF or Word document and click on the "Attach" Button.

 - Click "Save".

Navigate back to your account page ("My Account") and after clicking on the "Edit" tab, click on "Activity Stream".

 - Here you can choose whether or not you wish to accept Private Messages from other users of the site as well as supply and Feed URL's that you would like to add to your "LifeStream".

Click on "Personal Information" and ensure that your personal information is complete.

Click on "Professional Information" and ensure that your professional information is complete.

Click on the "My Newsletters" tab and select which newsletters that you would like to subscribe to.

Click on the "Twitter Accounts" tab (not the "Twitter tab") and supply your Twitter login information so that you can tweet directly from the site.

Click on the "Mobile Settings" tab, and confirm your mobile phone number in order to be able to receive sms messages from the site. Be sure to only include numbers (no hyphens or other characters.) Select your mobile carrier. You will receive a text message with a 4 diget number that you can confirm and then proceed.

Click on the "My Classified Ads" tab and create a new ad describing in detail what it is that you do and what you have to offer potential clients. Save your ad and then go back to your account ("My Account").

Click on "My Follow Links". Here you can add links to all of your social networks so that others can find you.  These links will be included on your profile page and will enrich your social networking capabilities.

Click on the "Notifications" tab and update your subscriptions settings so that you can follow any relevant discussion or content that pertains to you. Once the "Notifications" tab is selected you will have more options to configure your subscriptions including an "Add Subscription" tab.

Finally, Click on the "Delicious" tab and then click enable if you currently have a Delicious bookmarking account.  If you dont have one, go to www.delicious.com and create one right away.  Once your Delicious account is set up, input your Delicious username and password so that you can share your bookmarks with other users.

Your next step is to go to the Freighthouse Forum and introduce yourself to the community.

 - www.freighthousemedia.com/forum or click on the "Forums" link.

 - Select "The Freighthouse Network" forum

 - Click "New Topic"

 - Introduce yourself.  

 - Add links to your site and/or portfolio.

 - Tell us why you are here.

 - Ask a question. Whatever you want.

Next, click on "Groups" and join one!  If you don’t see one that interests you - create one.  

You have free access to use our tools and they are at your disposal.

Don’t forget - you now have your own blog. USE IT!

 - Click on "My Blog" and post something.  Tell us what you are working on, what you are looking for, and what you are doing.  

 - If you have entered your twitter account information, you will have the option to post your blog entry (and any other content you create) to your Twitter account.

Browse the job board, get work, read an article, write an article...whatever.

You can browse Amazon directly from the site by going to www.freighthousemedia.com/amazon_store.

Now you are well on your way to contributing to FreighthouseMedia.com as well as enriching your own professional creative career!
